urubi
‘(unknown)’1.1.1Transmission
This word is found in a decree with a reference to the years of Xezixa, (perhaps the uncle of Gergis?).
[D.S.]
1.1.2Forms
| dat./loc. sg. (?) | urubi (or urub〈l〉i) | TL 65.16 (Isinda) |
Thus also Gehrisch 2018a:117. Neumann 2007a:408 suggests instead that urubi is the subject of the sentence, which, while not impossible, is less likely, since teteri ‘the towns’ are probably the subject in this seemingly dedicatory passage.
[D.S.]
1.1.3Graphic Features
Considering the similarity with urublije- (← erublije- n.) ‘monuments (vel sim.)’, it is highly tempting to emend to urub〈l〉i, which would render it the dat./loc. sg. of urublije- n. Neumann 2007a:408 considers urubi to be related to urublije-, probably functioning as the derivational base of the latter, but this is unlikely, since the -b- arose out of the sequence *-wl- (> -bl-) (see Martínez Rodríguez 2019a).
[D.S.]
1.1.4Meaning
The meaning depends on whether the emendation suggested above is correct. Gehrisch 2018a:117 assumes a connection with urublije- without any emendation and translates iti : urubi with ‘auf dem Vertragsdenkmal’ (for the first word, see Lyc. ite-). She is probably on the right track, except that this would require an emendation from urubi to urub〈l〉i. Awaiting further evidence, we refrain from providing any translation.
[D.S.]
1.1.5Stem
Contra Neumann 2007a:408, there is no evidence for the existence of neuter i-stems in Lycian.
