prijẽ

‘(unknown)’

1.1.1Transmission

This lexeme is attested once in the poetical inscription engraved on the lion sarcophagus of Antiphellos, dated on stylistic grounds to the beginning of the 4th century BCE (Zahle 1979a:318, Mühlbauer 2007a:91).

1.1.2Forms

unclear prijẽ TL 55.1 (Antiphellos)

Formally speaking, prijẽ could be an adposition equating to Luwian pariyan ‘beyond, exceedingly’ (Schürr 2005a:148), in which case it would be indeclinable. Alternatively, it could be the nominative/accusative singular of a neuter noun (Hajnal 1995a:92, DLL:125) or the genitival plural of any noun (Schürr 2005a:148).

1.1.3Meaning

The meaning depends on the lexical assignment of the word. An etymological relationship with prijãme/i- and prijeli(je)- should be kept in mind; cf. Shevoroshkin 2002a:230, who sees an adjective ‘first, prime’.
