1.1.4Meaning

The meaning of CLuw. lalašḫa-(ti) cannot be ascertained through contextual analysis due to the fragmentary state of the attestations. Assuming a derivational connection to lālašḫā- ‘act of taking repeatedly (?)’, the best available hypothesis for a meaning seems to be ‘to take repeatedly’. However, this interpretation must be regarded as highly tentative as it cannot be verified on contextual grounds and since the meaning of lālašḫā- likewise remains merely hypothetical.

1.1.5Stem

Per Sasseville 2021a:27, CLuw. lalašḫa-(ti) is an unleniting a-stem verb. It is formed to a nominal base lālašḫā- ‘act of taking repeatedly (?)’ (Starke 1979a:259, Sasseville 2020d:249), which in turn is most likely formed to the verb lālā-(i) ‘to take (imperf.)’, ultimately derived by reduplication from lā-(i) ‘to take’.

[O.B.]

For the derivational base, see lālašḫā-.
