1.1.3Meaning
Gusmani 1961a:180f. n. 19 suggests the meaning ‘to recover’ based on the context and adduces Hitt. daške/a-(mi) ‘to take (imperf.)’ as a cognate. The same etymological analysis is suggested by Sasseville 2021a:507, adducing evidence form the Lycian perspective, i.e. ze-(ti) ‘to take (in marriage), collect’. Moreover, Sasseville 2021a explains that it is only the stem ce- (Lyc. ze-) that is equivalent to Hitt. daške/a-(mi), whereas the suffix -ši- represents an inner-Lydian formation.
Regarding the syntax of the passage (LW 13.4), one should note that Gusmani 1961a and Sasseville 2021a take asfã=k as the direct object of cešwν, while Yakubovich regards it as an adverb; see under Lyd. asfãν.
