1.1.3.1Phonological Interpretation
The present lexeme is regarded as a derivative of /annatt(i)-/ ‘mother’, and its phonological interpretation is hence based on that. If the identification of the suffix as /-ann(i)-/ is correct (see discussion of stem below), the suggested phonological form of the word can be taken as reasonably certain.

1.1.4Meaning
In the editio princeps, Dinçol, Dinçol, Hawkins, Peker & Öztan 2015a:65, 68 draw a justified comparison to HLuw. /annatt(i)-/ ‘mother’ and suggest that the additional suffix found in /annattinn(i)-/ could perhaps mark a diminutive or hypocorism, leading to a tentative translation ‘mummy’. The authors also remark on the switch of gender assignment between the named gods in the pertinent phrase, which is part of the curse formula at the end of the inscription (cited version ARSUZ 1, §24a and b): *a-pa-ti-pa-wa/i-tá MATER-na-tí-ni-sa (DEUS)BONUS-ma-sa tá-ti-sa-pa-wa/i-tú-tá (DEUS)VITIS-pa+ra/i-ia-sa (PES2.PES)tara/i-za-tú ‘…, for him (may) the grain-god turn (into) a mother?, and the wine-god (into) a father for him ...’. In fact, the gender reversal may be part of the curse, which goes on to detail how the perpetrator should be punished by other gods. It does not become clear from the context, however, in how far /annattinn(i)-/ differs semantically from /annatt(i)-/, if at all; only further attestations can clarify the matter.
[AH.B.]
1.1.5Stem
/annattinn(i)-/ is a derivative of the noun /annatt(i)-/ ‘mother’ by the nominal suffix /-(a)nn(i)-/, which is i-mutated, though not evident here for a lack of the relevant forms. The suffix has been suggested (cf. Melchert 2003b:196) to form diminutives from existing nouns, but because of the present lexeme’s unclear semantics, it cannot be taken as incontrovertible proof.
