‘(preverb)’1.1.1Transmission
This lexeme is found in a grave inscription as well as on the inscribed pillar of Xanthos, dated contextually to shortly after the ascension of Artaxerxes II in 405-404 BCE and stylistically to around 400 BCE (Borchhardt & Eichner 1997-1999a:19f.).

1.1.3Meaning
The preverb eri is found together with the verb da-(di) ‘to give’ and za-(ti) ‘to make an allotment, give a share’. It is often translated with ‘away’ based on an etymological comparison with Hitt. arḫa ‘away’ (Laroche 1958b:177, followed by Gusmani 1962a:168 n. 31, Melchert 1999c:75 n. 3). Neumann 2007a:67 assigns the meanings ‘away, over, very’ without any contextual support. Both contexts are still hard to penetrate, so that the semantics cannot be absolutely supported on contextual grounds. For a contextual analysis of TL 44b.4, see Eichner 2005a:25, and for TL 118.5, see Sasseville 2021a:306 (Christiansen 2020a:252f. leaves the passage untranslated). Further evidence in favor of a meaning ‘away’ could be tentatively adduced from the univerbation eseri.
