1.1.3Meaning
Lyc. B xuzruwãt(i)- is attested modifying waxssa (TL 44d.56) and tuburiz (TL 44c.53). According to Sasseville 2021d, these words denote ‘bread’ and ‘vines’ respectively. Analyzing xuzruwãt(i)- as an adjective derived with the suffix -wãt(i)- (see Stem), a basic meaning ‘having xuzr-‘ is probable (per Sasseville ‘full of xuzr-‘, per Schürr 2016d:179 ‘xuzr-reich’). The meaning of xuzruwãt(i)- is thus crucially dependent on the meaning of the unattested base *xuzr- (but cf. xuzrñt(i)-). Since specifically bread and vines have xuzr-, a reasonable guess would be that the word denotes some sort of fruit growing on vines (e.g. ‘olives’, ‘dates’, ‘grapes’, etc.), but this is unverifiable and difficult to reconcile with any tentative etymological connection to xustte/i- ‘fire (?)’ (with s > z when preceding a resonant, assumed in DLL:137, Schürr 2016d:179).
The translation as a verb meaning ‘schützen’ found in Meriggi 1937a:514 is outdated.
