muwilad(i)-
‘(unknown)’1.1.1Transmission
This lexeme is attested in the inscription of the inscribed pillar of Xanthos, dated contextually to shortly after the ascension of Artaxerxes II in 405-404 BCE and stylistically to around 400 BCE (Borchhardt & Eichner 1997-1999a:19f.).

muwilade |
Melchert (DLL:122) sees a collective formation in -ada just like in nom./acc. coll. hrm̃mada and dat./loc. pl./coll. tãmade, which is entirely possible; see under the respective lemmata. However, the stem formation is a priori given in its more neutral form, i.e. -ad(i)-. Contra Gehrisch 2018a:87 “abl./instr.”.

1.1.3Graphic Features
There have been attempts at dividing the word in two; e.g. Kalinka 1901a:104 “muwi lade” and Schürr 2016d:165, with a verbal form for (muwi)lade. However, the 3sg. pres. verb epñ tadi within the clause prohibits the analysis of a preterit form for muwilade. Shevoroshkin 1971a:233 even suggests muwila=de, although the particle =de is restricted to Wackernagel’s position.

1.1.4Meaning
The word muwilade refers to a place where something pertaining to nourishment and small livestock are placed back (Sasseville 2018a:311). Most scholars assume an etymological relationship with muwa- ‘strength’, which is possible but does not lead very far; thus Shevoroshkin 1971a:233 “the strong ones” (followed by Gehrisch 2018a:82), DLL:112, Schürr 2016d:165. Instead, one can compare Hitt. GIŠmuwila- c. ‘(a type of agricultural tool)’ (CHD L-N:319), which is used in the Luwian ritual of Puriyanni. From a morphological perspective, it looks exactly like the derivational base expected for Lyc. B muwilad(i)-. Unfortunately, since the exact meaning of the potential Hittite cognate is not known, very little can be determined for the present lemma. Therefore, no meaning is attributed here to Lyc. B muwilad(i)-.

1.1.5Stem
The word muwilade denotes a type of structure in which things are kept. For this type of formation, see Lyc. A tãmad(i)- and Lyc. A hrm̃mad(i)-; contra Shevoroshkin 1971a:233 and Gehrisch 2018a:87 “agent noun”.
