1.1.4Meaning

Luw. malwara- always occurs in conjunction with tuḫḫara- ‘incense (?)’. Like tuḫḫara-, malwara- is something that may be either burned or extinguished (KI.MIN on KUB 35.145 ii 15’ certainly refers back to Hitt. kištanunun ‘I extinguished’, see Yakubovich 2010d:31). However, it is not clear whether the sense of malwara- is concrete, abstract and/or metaphorical.

[O.B.]

1.1.5Stem

Luw. malwara- is a common gender a-stem.

[O.B.]

1.1.6Origin

The Luwian provenance of malwara- is assured by the strictly Luwian endings -nzi and -nza (Laroche 1959a:67, HEG L-M:111, CLL:201, van den Hout 2006a:254). See also doppelter Glossenkeilmalwan-.
