The interpretation of the formation in -nt(i)- as ergative is tentative due to the fragmentary context. A possessive adjective in -nt(i)- remains a possibility.

1.1.3Meaning
The meaning of malwan- cannot be recovered from the context.

1.1.4Stem
The lexeme is most likely an n-stem (see Starke 1990a:227-244).

1.1.5Origin
The word was already treated as Luwian by Hoffner 1997a:106 (followed by van den Hout 2006a:247 and Melchert pers. comm.). This origin is supported by the ending in -inz[i?] as well as by its probable connection to CLuw. malwara- and HLuw. ma-lu-wa/i-. For a possible but not yet provable Indo-European etymology, see under Lyc. A mlu-.
