1.1.3Meaning
Neumann 2007a:257 takes parttalã rightly as an appellative and not a personal name (thus also Schürr 2014a:755, Gehrisch 2018a:48f.), as was preferred in the earlier literature. Its agreement with kbi ‘another’ renders the interpretation as a personal name unattractive. Melchert (DLL:47) suggests the meaning ‘portion’ without any justification. From a morphological perspective, parttala- represents an agent noun or a professional term in -ala- (see Sasseville 2014-2015a) surely derived from the noun partta- found in the same inscription. Therefore, parttala- could be the person in charge of the partta-. Nonetheless, no semantics can be given as long as the meaning of the base is unknown.
