kbijazza-

‘double share (?)’

1.1.1Transmission

This word is found in a new dedicatory inscription from Aloanda (near Pinara) (Onur & Tekoğlu 2020a:17f., Christiansen 2019b:69).

[D.S.]

1.1.2Forms

acc. sg. kbijazzu N 348.11 (Aloanda)

The most likely grammatical interpretation is an accusative singular of an a-stem (likewise Onur & Tekoğlu 2020a:21).

[D.S.]

1.1.3Meaning

Onur & Tekoğlu 2020a:21 hesitate to separate the word in two, i.e. kbij + azzu, which is not necessary, since we may simply be dealing with a compound made of kbija ‘two’ and zza- c. ‘share, allotment’ (though with reduplication). Since it occurs within a context of sacrificial offerings, the semantics of ‘double share’ would be adequate. Needless to say that any interpretation remains tentative until further evidence emerges.

[D.S.]

For the first member of the compound, see Lyc. A kbi(je)-, and for the second member, see Lyc. A za- c.
