1.1.1Transmission

This lexeme is found in the inscription of the inscribed pillar of Xanthos, dated contextually to shortly after the ascension of Artaxerxes II in 405-404 BCE and stylistically to around 400 BCE (Borchhardt & Eichner 1997-1999a:19f.).

1.1.2Forms

3sg. pret. ind. act. zbetẽ TL 44a.33 (Xanthos)

Despite the fragmentary context, a verbal form is more likely than an accusative singular noun (thus DLL:88, pace Meriggi 1978c:263, Neumann 2007a:431), especially if the segment mẽ before is to be read as m(e)=ẽ (thus Gehrisch 2018a:61).

1.1.3Meaning

The word zbetẽ occurs in a context of a bull offering. Without an etymological approach, no semantic assignment can be given, although one should compare Lyc. B zbali-(ti).

1.1.4Origin

No reconstruction possible.
