qã[n]a-
‘(unknown)’1.1.1Transmission
This lexeme is found in the inscription of the inscribed pillar of Xanthos, dated contextually to shortly after the ascension of Artaxerxes II in 405-404 BCE and stylistically to around 400 BCE (Borchhardt & Eichner 1997-1999a:19f.).

Shevoroshkin (apud Neumann 2007a:299) suggested restoring qã[nadi] to obtain an agreement with the preceding arm̃paimedi, which is entirely possible, but difficult to prove.

1.1.3Graphic Features
Shevoroshkin 2012a:470 restores qã[n]ã, which is phonotactically more adequate than qã[j]ã suggested by Gusmani 1968c:16. Schürr 2018b:62, 77 likewise restores [n], excluding [t] based on the traces left. This can be further supported by the possible reading of q̣?ãṇ?aụ? at TL 55.5; see under derivative.

1.1.4Meaning
The meaning of qãna- is unclear. Shevoroshkin 2002a:230 (Shevoroshkin 2012a:470) suggests ‘fine, amends’, which is pure conjecture. He even proposes a connection with the PIE root *gu̯hen- attested in Lyc. qa-(ti) ‘to strike’, which is formally possible, but does not shed light in the Lycian B context. More evidence is needed.
