1.1.3Meaning
Hajnal 1994a:137 n. 5 suggests on contextual grounds the meaning ‘to give (as a sacrifice)’. In TL 44a.32, the verb xis- takes as its direct object the noun wawadra- ‘herd of cattle (?)’. The sacrificial context is supported by the fact that the passage is introduced with the term kuma- c. ‘sacrifice (vel sim.)’, which could be the direct object of xistte in TL 44a.29. Melchert (DLL:83) translates ‘to make an animal sacrifice (?)’ restricting the use of the verb to animal sacrifices only. This is entirely possible, although, because of the low number of attestations, it is more prudent to avoid a pragmatic interpretation. The meaning ‘to offer in sacrifice’ is followed by Shevoroshkin 2011b:142 n. 1 and is here taken as the default one.

Schürr 2005a:158 restores xi[sñ]te or xi[st]te, basing himself on the Lycian A verb xis-. The restoration of a 3rd person plural xisñte is more likely than 3rd singular xistte (pace DLL:135), because the previous clause contains a verbal form in the 3rd person plural, i.e. date (see da-(di) ‘to give’), and no change of subject can be detected.
[D.S.]
1.2.3Meaning
The semantic assignment here is based on the equation with Lycian A xis- and the derivational base xi- ‘offering, sacrifice’ (Shevoroshkin 2002c:413, DLL:135, Schürr 2005a:158). The direct object of the verb xi[sñ]te is probably kñ!ta, whose meaning is unknown.

1.2.4Stem
The verb xis-(ti) is an imperfective stem in -s-(ti) derived from the verb xi- ‘to perform an offering/sacrifice’ attested only in Lycian A so far.

2. Reconstruction
2.1Reconstruction
The verb xis-(ti) is an imperfective verb in -s-(ti) (< Proto-Lyc. *-ss- < *-sk̂e/o-); cf. Serangeli 2018a:321. The present verb xis- should not be back-projected into Proto-Indo-European, since it could represent a late formation. More evidence for a late formation of xis- can be adduced, if the derivational base, i.e. Lyc. A xi-, is indeed a denominative in *-i̯é/ó-; the extension of formations in *-sk̂e/o- from root stems to denominative stems cannot be posited for Proto-Indo-European and, therefore, it must be a late process.
[D.S.]
For the derivational base see Lyc. A xi-.
