1.1.2Forms
| acc. pl. | koττis | LW 13.6 (Sardis) |
Brandenstein 1931a:29 analyzes koττis in kot=τ=is (followed by Gusmani 1961a:182, Gusmani 1964a:154, though withdrawn in Gusmani 1980a:67f.). Meriggi 1935a:105 considers koττis as a single word and suggests that it represents an assimilated form of kolciš (LW 15.2), which is phonologically unsupported. Meriggi 1963a:21 insists that the word cannot be divided into a particle chain on syntactic grounds. For the interpretation as a mutated noun in the accusative plural, see Sasseville 2017a:140.

1.1.3Meaning
The meaning of koττ(i)- is obscure and depends on how one analyzes the word. Meriggi 1963a:21 suggests the meaning ‘as’, implying a connection with the conjugation kot. Sasseville 2017a:140, on the other hand, posits an original formation in -š(i)-, i.e. Pre-Lydian *kuwattassa/i- > *kótaš(i)- > *kótš(i)- > koττ(i)-. This accounts for the word in a plausible morphological and phonological manner. Nevertheless, this cannot be proven until further evidence emerges.
