afaλa-
‘(unknown)’1.1.1Transmission
This lexeme is attested at least once in a metrical inscription from Sardis that has so far not been dated accurately, and perhaps a second time in an inscription from Tire that has recently been dated on contextual grounds to early in the second half of the 6th century BCE (Euler & Sasseville 2019a:139).

1.1.4Meaning
No meaning has been suggested by either Gusmani 1964a:52 or Euler & Sasseville 2019a:138. The noun is likely related to the word afari-, whose status and semantics are however debated. On contextual grounds, afaλaλ (LW 13.5) appears to be something for which the speakers in the inscription provide authorization by sealing. Both contexts in LW 13 and LW 62 make mentions of property and goods that are either exchanged or handed over.
