irijẽm̃m[

‘(unknown)’

1.1.1Transmission

This lexeme is found in the inscription of the inscribed pillar of Xanthos, dated contextually to shortly after the ascension of Artaxerxes II in 405-404 BCE and stylistically to around 400 BCE (Borchhardt & Eichner 1997-1999a:19f.).

1.1.2Forms

unknown irijẽm̃m[(.)] TL 44a.40 (Xanthos)

1.1.3Graphic Features

The segmentation of seirijẽm̃m[.] is debated: Kalinka 1901a:42 reads se=irijẽm̃m[.] (followed by Shevoroshkin 1969a:259 n. 6). Neumann 2007a:154 and Schürr 2009a:162 suggest instead se=i=(e)rijẽm̃m[.]. Their interpretation is possible, but difficult to prove. Furthermore, the existence of a root ir- in Lycian is supported by Lyc. B irelese/i-.

1.1.4Meaning

Shevoroshkin 1969a:259 n. 6 sees in irijẽm̃m[.] a personal name (likewise Schürr 2009a:162), which is not cogent. The difficulty in this case is whether one takes seirijẽm̃m[.] as part of the preceding or following sentence. Further evidence is needed.
