1.1.3.1Phonological Interpretation
The phonological interpretation of the present lexeme is reasonably certain, because it is cognate – very probably by way of borrowing – with the Hittite adjective šuppi- ‘(ritually) pure’, the related Hittite purale tantum neuter noun šuppa ‘pure animal offering’ and further members of the same word family (cf. HEG Š:1176-1179 and later entries). The HLuw. words around the concept of ritual purity are based on the adjective /kummaiya-/, see under lemma. In addition to that, the suffix /-tt(i)-/ is well-known from other HLuw. lexemes, cf. Yakubovich 2015b:6.2.

1.1.4Meaning
Poetto 1979b:671f. connected the present lexeme to Hittite šuppi- ‘(ritually) pure’, following a tentative suggestion by Meriggi (HHG:141) to interpret /usuppatt(i)-/ as ‘Opferrind’ (see under lemma). The present lexeme is attested only once in HLuw. so far, and it occurs on a damaged part of the HAMA 4 inscription in §14: (“FLAMMAE?+LA/I/U”)la/i/u-za-li-ha-wa/i (“BOS”)su-pa-ti-na “BOS”-na || […], i.e. /luzzallin=ha=wa suppattin wawin [...]/, which may mean ‘And as a complete sacrificial burning, the/a bovine animal offering ...’ with the adjective /wawin/ postposed to its noun. Alternatively, this clause may feature an object complement construction inside another one, i.e. two double accusatives: ‘And as a complete sacrificial burning, an ox as an animal offering ...’. Within the larger context, the suggested meaning fits well into the part of the inscription regardless of the exact construction, because it details the offerings the author used to make to the gods.

1.1.5Stem
The lexeme is a denominal formation in /-tt(i)-/, derived from what appears to be a borrowing from the Hittite word family around šuppi- ‘(ritually) pure’.
