‘(unknown)’1.1.1Transmission
This lexeme is found in the inscription of the inscribed pillar of Xanthos, dated contextually to shortly after the ascension of Artaxerxes II in 405-404 BCE and stylistically to around 400 BCE (Borchhardt & Eichner 1997-1999a:19f.).

1.1.3Meaning
The word ilẽnedije is obviously a derivative of ilẽne (thus DLL:117, Schürr 2018b:69). Gehrisch 2018a:96 follows the suggestion of Savelsberg 1878a:22, equating it with Gk. Ἕλλην ‘Greek’, which is completely unsupported. However, the context in which it occurs is even more obscure than that of the base. Therefore, the tentative meaning ‘stairs’ obtained for the base cannot be verified here.

1.1.4Stem
ilẽnedi(je)- can be analyzed as an adjective in -i(je)-, derived from a non-attested *ilẽned(i)- or *ilãnada-, which would represent a collective formation in -ad- to the base ilẽ(n)- n.; cf. tãmad(i)- and hrm̃mad(i)-.

For the lemma head see ilẽ(n)-.
