1.1.3Meaning

The context in which hublehi is found is too damaged to verify any semantic approach. Shevoroshkin (apud Neumann 2007a:105) suggests an etymological connection with Hitt. šuppal- ‘small cattle’, which is not supported phonologically, since the Hittite geminate -pp- equals Lycian p. Martínez-Rodrígez 2019a:221 suggests an association with the Lycian root huw- ‘to fill’ (cf. Hitt./CLuw. šuw-) found in huwedre/i- ‘all’, demonstrating that the sequence *-wl- in Lycian becomes -bl-. Her analysis is entirely convincing, although any semantic connection with ‘filling’ cannot be proven due to the fragmentary state of the context, as she herself concedes.

1.1.4Stem

The word hublehi can be interpreted as the genitival adjective in -ehe/i- of a non-attested noun *huble-, i.e. hublehe/i-, or as the lexicalized version of it.
