1.1.1Transmission

This lexeme is found in the inscription of the inscribed pillar of Xanthos, dated contextually to shortly after the ascension of Artaxerxes II in 405-404 BCE and stylistically to around 400 BCE (Borchhardt & Eichner 1997-1999a:19f.).

unknown zini TL 44d.15 (Xanthos)

The grammatical assignment is unclear, although a dative singular does not seem likely in view of the dative plural noun plejerese occurring in the same sentence.

1.1.3Meaning

Shevoroshkin 2011a:34 interprets zini as a dative singular of a stem zina, which he equates to the Greek god Zeus. Unfortunately, this is neither supported by the contextual evidence nor by the phonology involved. The comparison with Hitt. zinni-/zinn-(mi) ‘to finish’ does not lead any further (Neumann 2007a:435 with further literature). The context in which it occurs remains obscure. Thus, no meaning is given here (likewise DLL:137).
