This lexeme is found in the inscription of the inscribed pillar of Xanthos, dated contextually to shortly after the ascension of Artaxerxes II in 405-404 BCE and stylistically to around 400 BCE (Borchhardt & Eichner 1997-1999a:19f.).

1.1.3Meaning
The word pssesi is found in an obscure context.Neumann 2007a:288 takes it to be a genitival adjective in -ese/i-, Schürr 2018b:76 follows this analysis and connects it to the word pise. Melchert (DLL:102) suggests tentatively that it may be a personal name, adducing the word psseje as potential evidence. However, psseje is not likely to be a personal name; see under lemma. No translation is offered by Gehrisch 2018a:91.
It is also worth comparing the Lycian A noun pihesi ‘?’. However, no comparative evidence has so far led any further. Both the meaning and the grammatical function of pssesi remain obscure.
