1.1.3.1Phonological Interpretation
Despite a single attestation, the phonological interpretation of this lexeme is secure, because the word is also attested in CLuw. The transparent morphology of the word further aids its interpretation, for besides being built from a very well-attested derivational base, it involves an equally well-known suffix (see discussion of stem below), whose phonological form is clear.
[AH.B.]
1.1.4Meaning
Derived from the noun /tad(i)-/ ‘father’, the meaning of this lexeme is fully transparent from a morphological point of view and was first noticed as a parallel formation to /tadi(ya)-/ ‘paternal, father’s’ (see lemma) in Bossert 1949a:105. The interpretation is supported contextually in KARKAMIŠ A11b+c, 1§2, as it is joined asyndetically with another adjective derived from a kinship term, AVUS-ha-tà-li-sa /huhadallis/ ‘grandfatherly, grandfather’s’: a-wa/i za-a-sa URBS+MI-ni-i-sa *a-mi-sá tá-tà-li-sa AVUS-ha-tà-li-sa *447-nu-wa/i-ia-si *a-sa-tá ‘This city, my father’s (and) grandfather’s, was Ninuwi’s.’ (cf. Hawkins 2000a:103f.).
[AH.B.]
1.1.5Stem
The adjective is derived with the suffix /-alla/i-/ from the noun /tad(i)-/ ‘father’ and undergoes i-mutation, cf. e.g. Melchert 2003b:195.

Attestation follows CLL:221 checked against the photo of the Konkordanz. García Trabazo 2002a:236 emended it into ad!-da-al-la based on the term attalla of the parallel phrase in §24’’’’’ (KUB 33.106+ iii 50’). However, Rieken et al. 2009h:§12’’’ n. 25 rightly reject this pointing out that we are dealing with the Luwian form of the same word (i.e. any emendation is unnecessary).
[Zs.S.]
1.2.3Meaning ‘paternal’
There is a general and justified agreement regarding its meaning (CLL:221; García Trabazo 2002a:236; EDHIL:225; Rieken et al. 2009h:§12’”; not included in Friedrich 1952a; Ünal 2007a, Ünal 2016a; Tischler 2008a, Tischler 2016a) due to its transparent morphology (a derivative of the Luwian word tāta/i- ‘father’ with the appurtenance suffix -alla/i-), its unambiguous context as well as a parallel phrase (see under Form).
[Zs.S.]
1.2.4Origin
There is a general agreement that this is a Luwian loanword in Hittite (CLL:221; EDHIL:225; Rieken et al. 2009h:§12’’’ n. 25), although not included in the lists of Luwianisms by Melchert 2005a and van den Hout 2007a (also HEG T,D omits this word). This is undoubtedly correct considering its derivation by a Luwian suffix from a Luwian word (see under Meaning).
