1.1.3.1Phonological Interpretation
The spelling of the forms permits a reasonably secure interpretation of the phonology, as does the fact that the word has a partial cognate in CLuw. *šunn(a)- ‘to fill’ and is a member of the word family around the HLuw. adjective /su-/ ‘complete, full’.
[AH.B.]
1.1.4Meaning
As the context in KARKAMIŠ A17c is extremely fragmented, the semantic interpretation of the present lexeme relies mostly on the YUNUS context and its morphological link to /su-/ ‘full, complete’ and CLuw. *šunn(a)- ‘to fill’, Hittite šunniye/a-(mi) ‘to pour; to spill’ and related words. Cf. Peker 2014a:192 who translates it contextually as ‘to libate’.
[AH.B.]
1.1.5Stem
The verb seems to show the suffix /-i-(ti)/, well-known from other verbs (Sasseville 2021a); alternatively, it may constitute a verb in /-i(ya)-(di)/, although that is less likely for it not being a root formation. It appears to be a further derivation from an earlier n-infix verb, which is still visible in CLuw. šunnuwant(i)-. Sasseville 2021a:540 follows the theory that the gemination of /n/ to /nn/ belongs to the plural forms of the verb, from where it has, in CLuw., spread through the paradigm by levelling; whether or not this was also the case for HLuw. cannot be ascertained on the basis of the HLuw. spelling.

2. Reconstruction
2.1Reconstruction ‘to fill, to pour’
The equation of HLuw. /sun(n)i-(ti)/ ‘to pour’ with Hitt. šunniye/a-(mi) ‘to fill’ leads to the reconstruction of a Proto-Anatolian pre-form *sunh3-i̯é/ó- derived from the nasal infix formation *su-né-h3-/*su-n-h3-´ (Hitt. šunna-/šunn-(ḫi), Pal. šūna-). The derivation in *-i̯é/ó- is usually considered to be late since the suffix is seen as productive e.g. in New Hittite (thus Oettinger 1979a:159), but its existence in two independent Anatolian languages speaks for an early creation.
