1.1.4Stem
Gusmani 1980a:85 suggests that qrifrit is a noun in the nominative/accusative singular neuter with a sandhi sound change from d → t in front of a following word beginning with q- (cf. Gusmani ibid:21f.). Assumption of this sandhi phenomenon is entirely ad hoc and does not bring any advantage to understanding the context and grammar. Differently, Schürr 2000b:124 suggests to analyze qrifrit as qrifri(d)=t with the particle =(i)t and thus regards it as a neuter noun just like Gusmani. Furthermore, he analyzes qrifri- as a compound of qira- ‘property’ and ifr(i)- ‘?’. All these suggestions are extremely tentative and cannot be supported due to the obscurity of the passage as well as its fragmentary state.
