1.1.3.1Phonological Interpretation
Attested in fully syllabic spelling, the phonological interpretation of this noun is reasonably certain. It is further aided by the existence of cognates in CLuw. /lahhi-/ and Hittite laḫḫiye/a-, both meaning ‘to travel; to campaign’, and the word families around them.

1.1.4Meaning
Because of just two occurrences within the same text, the meaning of this word escaped scholars for some time (see e.g. Hawkins 2000a:513 and Giusfredi 2010b:164). However, the contexts in the lead strips strongly suggest that the word denotes a function or title, as it appears in close proximity of the dat./loc. pl. /hurnallanza/ ‘hunter’ for instance. The cognate links to CLuw., Lycian B, and Hittite serve to support the meaning assigned to this lexeme.
A connection with Akkadian alaḫḫinu ‘(administrative official)’ was tentatively suggested by Hawkins 2000a:513, but seems moot in light of the fact that HLuw. /lahhinalla-/ has cognates in CLuw., Hittite, and Lycian B.

1.1.5Stem
The present lexeme is clearly related to the verb /lahhi-/ ‘to travel; to campaign’, which is attested in CLuw. and is cognate with Hitt. laḫḫiye/a- ‘to travel; to campaign’, see Giusfredi 2012a:156 who speculates about an Anatolian origin instead of a loan from Akkadian. It is derived with help of the suffix /-alla-/ (thus already Meriggi & Poetto 1982a:106), which builds mostly agent nouns (cf. Sasseville 2014-2015a:120), and the derivational basis here is an unattested verb */lahhina-/ with the otherwise marginally attested suffix /-ina-(i)/ (see Sasseville 2021a:529-532) and very likely a meaning similar to the verbs attested in CLuw. and Hittite.
