1.1.3.1Phonological Interpretation
The phonological interpretation of this lexeme is somewhat uncertain despite its fully syllabic spelling. Because its precise meaning is unknown, it has so far remained etymologically isolated. A connection with CLuw. ḫalāl(i)- ‘pure’ is within the realm of possibility, but cannot be proven.

1.1.4Meaning
Within its contexts in the Assur letters, it is clear that /halarall(a)-?/ denotes a tradable commodity, because the authors of both letters request it to be sent to them. ASSUR letter c, §11, mentions it as /halaralla=… sanawiya/, i.e. ‘good halaralla-s’, suggesting there can be differences in quality. In ASSUR letter a, §10, the noun is preceded by the adjective /hwisnamai(ya)-/, probably meaning ‘of game, of wild animal?’, which suggests that /halarall(a)-?/ could denote certain animal parts, provided the interpretation of the adjective is correct.
