ikuwaza-
‘(a title)’1.1.1Transmission
This lexeme is attested once in a dedicatory inscription composed during the reign of Pttule (on which see Neumann 2007a:289 with further literature).

1.1.2Forms
| nom. sg. | ikuwaza | TL 35.13 (Üsümlü) |
| unknown | ikuwaz[.] | TL 35.16 (Üsümlü) |
Based on the syntax of the sentence, ikuwaz[.] could be either nominative singular, i.e. ikuwaz[a], or dative singular, i.e. ikuwaz[i]. Further contextual evidence is needed to decide.

1.1.3Meaning
Based on its morphology, i.e. the suffix -aza-, ikuwaza- should be a professional title. No meaning has been suggested, only an etymological relationship to the personal names ikuwe- and ikkuweme/i- (Neumann 2007a:151), which sheds no further light on the semantics.
[D.S.]
1.1.4Origin
The etymological connection between Lyc. ikuwaza- and Hitt. ḫink-(mi) ‘to offer’ suggested by Carruba 1980a:281f. is phonologically incorrect (see under Lyc. A *xe/i-). Neumann 2007a:151 suggests a connection with CLuw. ikkuna-, which is possible (see also Starke 1990a:541), but very speculative. In the end, we do not suggest any etymology for the Lycian title ikuwaza-, whose function (and thus meaning) is still unknown.
