sunemamadi

‘(unknown)’

1.1.1Transmission

This lexeme is found in various grave inscriptions as well as on the inscribed pillar of Xanthos, dated contextually to shortly after the ascension of Artaxerxes II in 405-404 BCE and stylistically to around 400 BCE (Borchhardt & Eichner 1997-1999a:19f.).

1.1.2Forms

abl./instr.(?) sunemamadi TL 44a.17 (Xanthos)

1.1.3Graphic Features

Kalinka 1901a:110 suggests the possibility of segmenting the word into two parts, i.e. sune mamadi, which is unprovable. Neumann 2007a:335 points out rightly that the word could contain a mistake of diplography, which does occur in Lycian inscriptions (van den Hout 1995b:126), i.e. sunema{ma}di. However, this is not provable either due to the lack of further evidence.
