1.1.3.1Phonological Interpretation

Despite being attested twice, this lexeme’s phonological interpretation remains somewhat tentative. Both attestations occur within the same inscription and show the same spelling, thereby providing no additional hints regarding their underlying phonology. Moreover, the word is yet without connections to other words within the HLuw. corpus or to cognates in the other Anatolian languages.

Sign L432 is here read as <za5> (phonetic value already suggested by Marazzi 1990a:266 as <zax>, confirmed by Yakubovich 2010a:66-68; index suggested by Goedegebuure (pers. comm.) because of the pronoun /anza-/ ‘we, us’. Weeden (Weeden 2010b: 49) and others before him have offered an interpretation as <zu> based on names on seals.

1.1.4Meaning

The lexeme occurs in a very fragmented inscription. Curiously, the second attestation appears to repeat verbatim the entire context of the first attestation in the previous line insofar as that can be assessed on the basis of the preserved signs.

1.1.5Stem

Although much of the context has been lost to damage, the lexeme can be identified as a noun with reasonable certainty. Its form is typical of a neuter plural. Whether or not the final /a/ is also part of the stem remains an open question.
