This hapax legomenon is attested once in a letter dating to the late 8th century BCE. Found in Assur, which may have been the addressee’s location, the geographical provenance of the letter is uncertain.

The syllabically written part of the attested form is clearly legible on the letter, but traces on the lead strip suggest that there was a logogram preceding it. Due to the fact that the basic structure of the word is a compound, its phonological interpretation can be regarded as certain.

Used in apposition to a PN, this lexeme clearly constitutes a title and belongs to the /ura-/ group of Luwian titles (Yakubovich 2017a:41-45). Giusfredi 2010b:162 hypothesises that it could be a professional title used for a person producing or trading in a certain commodity. Giusfredi’s suggestion (Giusfredi 2010b:162 and in detail 230 n. 489), i.e. that the commodity may be clothes or drapes, rests on the previous reading of sign *462 as <pa> instead of the now corrected reading, combined into a ligature with <ra/i>, as <mara/i>.

The lexeme is a compound, apparently consisting of /amuralla-/ ‘?’ (not attested in HLuw.) and /ura-/ ‘great’, the latter being a frequent second member of compounds used as titles in HLuw. (see Yakubovich 2017a:41-45 for more data and a detailed analysis). As for the first member of the present lexeme, /amuralla-/ may represent an adjective in /-alla/i-/ of the hapax legomenon /amur(i)-/, although little is known about the derivational base for it (cf. Yakubovich 2017a:44).
