1.1.4Meaning
The approximate meaning ‘(belonging to a chariot)’ is proposed by Siegelová 1986a:610 (but left without translation in Siegelová 1986a:154), followed by HEG L-P:462, CLL:169, Ünal 2007a:398 and DCL:s.v. Burgin 2022a:347 opts for a more specific ‘upholstered with pariyašša/i-̓, leaving pariyašša/i- itself untranslated (Burgin 2022a:346). The lexeme is listed in CHD P:153 under
pariyašša/i- as nom./acc. pl. N., which is unlikely due to the following sign MA resulting in the participle form
pariyaššaima. Nevertheless,
pariyaššaima is accepted to be part of a chariot in CHD P:153.The lexeme is not listed in HHw, EDHIL, HED.

1.1.5Stem
Tischler (HEG L-P:462) separates
pa-ri-ya-aš-ša-i-ma into
pariyaššai=ma (followed by CHD P:153), thus leading to the word
pariyašša/i-. His analysis as nom./acc. pl. n. does not fit his translation as ‘two chariots, but made of/showing pariyašša’, because that would require an abl./instr. form. Burgin 2022a:347 states that a Hittite adjective in -ai does not appear together with a gloss wedge in a Hittite text, thus Tischler’s analysis is incorrect.
The suffix -aimma/i- is well-known as the Luwian formant of participles.
[E.R.]
1.1.6Origin
The Luwian participle formant -aimma/i- shows the Luwian origin which is defended by DCL:s.v. A non-Hittite origin is further supported by the use of the preceding gloss wedges.
