1.1.3Meaning
Due to the fragmentary state of the context, it is difficult to obtain a reliable meaning, although the mention of various nutriments within the song makes an etymological comparison with HLuw. mara/i-wa/i-li- ‘corn-stem’ and CLuw. marawalli(ya)- highly tempting. In this case, Pal. māru- would mean ‘corn’. However, more work on the Palaic context is needed.
