1.1 Hieroglyphic Luwian
/tarPamarazza-(i)/, (“CASTRUM”)tara/i-pa-mára/i-za-
‘(unknown)’1.1.1Transmission
This lexeme is attested twice in inscriptions from Tabal, dating to the 9th to 8th century BCE.

1.1.2Forms
| 1sg. pret. act. | /tarPamarazzahha/ | (“CASTRUM”)tara/i-pa-mára/i-za-ha | ÇALAPVERDİ 1, §2 (Tabal) |
| (“CASTRUM”)tara/i-pa-mára/i-za-ha | ÇALAPVERDİ 2, §3 (Tabal) |
Hawkins 2000a:498 refrains from assigning any part of speech to the present lexeme, stating that the context is too damaged to permit a secure identification. However, an analysis as a verb remains the most viable option on morphological grounds (cf. the discussion of the stem below), although further evidence may require a reanalysis.

1.1.3.1Phonological Interpretation
Despite two fully syllabic attestations, the phonological interpretation of this lexeme is to be understood as provisional, because it remains without any secure etymological links. The logogram CASTRUM (sign *231) is otherwise exclusive to the neuter noun /harnissa-/ ‘fortress’, yet any connection between that word and the present lexeme remains in the dark.

1.1.4Meaning
Attested only twice in partially destroyed inscriptions, the semantic interpretation of this word is severely hampered, cf. Hawkins 2000a:498. Thus, ÇALAPVERDİ 2, §3 probably runs: a-wa/i (“CASTRUM”)tara/i-pa-mára/i-za-ha á-CAPUT-u AEDIFICARE+M[I …]. approx. /a=wa tarPamarazzahha ammu tam[aha …]/, possibly to be interpreted as ‘I t.-ed, I built …’ vel sim. However, the clausal divisions are far from secure.
[AH.B.]
1.1.5Stem
The word is analysed as a verb on the basis of its putative morphological structure. It appears to show a 1sg. pret. ind. act. ending after the verbal suffix /-zza-(i)/, which would also imply a verb as the derivational base (cf. Sasseville 2021a:439-441), i.e. */tarPamara-/ vel sim. No further analysis is possible at this point, and in fact, more textual data may lead to a reassessment.
