1.1.4Meaning
Attested in collocation with nāni(ya)- ‘related to the brother, fraternal’, the elucidation of the semantics and morphology of nānašri(ya)- ‘related to a sister’ have run entirely parallel to that of nāni(ya)-.

1.1.5Stem
As demonstrated by Carruba 1982a:35-38 and Melchert 1990a:199f., nānašri(ya)- represents an -i(ya)- adjective. The element preceding -i(ya)-, viz. -(a)šr(i)-, functions synchronically as a motion suffix, but probably goes back to the word for ‘woman’ (CLuw. *ašr(i)-; cf. Hitt. -ššara-), so that the formation originates in a compound (since Starke 1990a:170, building on Szemerényi 1977a:37; more recently Oettinger 2013-2014a:152 and Steer 2015a:45).
