1.1.2Forms

1pl. impv. act. (?) [šar?-l]a?!-a-u-un-du KUB 35.14 i 22” (CTH 760, NS)
part. nom. sg. c. (?) [š]ar-⸢la-mi-iš⸣[ KUB 32.5 iv 31’ (CTH 759, NS)

1.1.3Graphic Features

Checked against the photographs in the Mainzer Fotoarchiv. – The reading [šar?-l]a?!-a-u-un-du at KUB 35.14 i 22’ conforms with what is known of the context, but cannot be regarded as certain, especially in view of the peculiar LA sign written over erasure.

1.1.4Meaning

The context as attested does not permit a semantic interpretation by itself. However, if the restoration of the head noun Dutu at KUB 32.5 iv 31’ and KBo 8.129 iv 17’ is correct (Yakubovich & Mouton 2023a:110f.,116f. and Mouton 2023a:131), the suggested participial meaning ‘exalted’ is more than likely. The restoration of the finite verb form of a denominative verb derived from šarla/i- ‘high, upper(most)’ has the status of an educated guess, but again, if correct, the meaning would be ‘to elevate, exalt’.

1.1.5Stem

In view of the uncertainties described, it is hardly possible that the two words belong to the same stem class. The participle would belong to the -a-(ti) factitives or a stem in -a-(i), whereas the finite verb could only be assigned to the -a(i)-(di) denominatives (see Yakubovich & Mouton 2023a:112; less likely, albeit possible, the -(a)i-(di) verbs, for which no forms with endings with initial -u- are known).
