1.1.2Forms
| gen. sg. | /izzittas/ | i(a)-za/i-tá-sa | EMİRGAZİ 1A, §12 (Emirgazi) |
A second attestation at EMİRGAZİ 1C, §12 is likely in the form 〈[i(a)-za/i-]tá-sa〉, since the EMİRGAZİ 1 inscriptions all run parallel. However, it cannot be verified, because no photo of sufficient quality is available of that part; the drawing by E. Masson 1979c:29 is outdated.
Likewise outdated is the colon separation and analysis of the form as a verb by Hawkins 1995a:88, 95.

1.1.3.1Phonological Interpretation
The phonological interpretation of this word is provisional, because the spelling is ambiguous. The reading given here therefore rests on the assumption that the word belongs to the family around the verb /izzi(ya)-(di)/ ‘to make’, and its morphology suggests a form /izzitta-/ or /izzatta-/ or even /izziyatta-/, cf. the discussion of the stem below.
At the time of attestation, the HLuw. syllabary had not yet attained the more fine-grained differentiation of later times, and the signs *209 and *376 stood for 〈i, ia〉 and 〈zi, za〉 respectively before being narrowed to 〈i〉 and 〈zi〉 towards the beginning of the 1st millennium BCE. The a-vocalisation was then indicated by the addition of two horizontal strokes at the bottom of *209 and *376, creating the sign *210 for 〈ia〉 and *377 for 〈za〉, cf. Hawkins, Morpurgo Davies & Neumann 1973a:14f.

1.1.4Meaning
The meaning is suggested tentatively based on the morphological structure of the word and its context of attestation. Since the related verb /izzi(ya)-(di)/ is, like Hittite iye/a-(mi) ‘to do, make’, frequently used to denote ‘to celebrate (a deity or feast)’, the abstract noun likely denotes ‘veneration, worship, celebration, offering’ vel sim. (Yakubovich 2017e:s.v. and Yakubovich 2020a:470). EMİRGAZİ 1A, §12 is part of a correlative construction and runs: i(a)-za/i-tá-sa-wa/i-tá STELE *a-pa-sa hwa/i-sa-ti-sa i(a)-zi/a-i(a)-ru, approx. /izzi(ya)ttas=wa=tta wani(d)=sa abas hwasattis izziyaru/, probably translating as ‘(Which sacred stone is a stele for the gods), that sacred stone shall be made a stele of celebration(?)’.

1.1.5Stem
This noun is most likely a neuter abstract in /-tta-/ deriving from the same unattested stem */izzi-/ as the verbs /izzi(ya)-(di)/ ‘to make’ and /izzista-(i)/ ‘to honour, sacrifice’. Yakubovich 2020a:475f. analyses both verbs as compounds. However, the evidence is not unequivocal, since the attested genitive leaves open whether the stem shows i-mutation and should therefore be classified differently, viz. as a common gender noun in /-att(i)-/ vel sim. More data are needed for a more reliable assessment.
