1.1.3.1Phonological Interpretation:
Unknown. The sign *507 has so far remained without a secure interpretation and is otherwise only found on seals. Oreshko 2012b:229-231 draws a link to several personal names and proposes a shape /duwaddu-/ ‘to be merciful’ for the present word, however, more evidence is required to support his hypothesis, particularly as the semantics do not seem to fit into the context.
[AH.B.]
1.1.4Meaning
The semantic interpretation of the word is provisional and follows Yakubovich 2017e:s.v. In the context at SÜDBURG, §10ab reads: pu-wa/i-ti AVUS.HANA-na-z[i/a] NEG-wa/i-tá kwa/i-ti-ha *507, approx. /puwadi huhahannanz nawa=tta kwadi=ha …/, perhaps translating as ‘Before my ancestors, no one was successful (?)’ (cf. Hawkins 1995a:22f.). As this passage is followed by a clause detailing how Šuppiluliuma seizes a region from his enemies, the verb likely denotes military success of some kind.
