1.1.4Meaning
The translation ‘decorated’ is proposed by Rieken & Yakubovich 2020a:217f., whereas CHD P:210 offers more specifically ‘trimmed (?)’, ‘filigreed (?)’ and ‘embroidered(?)’ (followed by Ünal 2007a:532). The semantic interpretation of bāštant- is based on the meaning of its formal match in Luwian, viz. baštaima/i- (see under Stem).

1.1.5Stem
The lexeme bāštant- either derives from the Luwian base noun bašta- (i.e.
pašta-), ultimately borrowed from Akkadian, featuring the denominal Hittite -ant- suffix with possessive meaning, or it represents the participle of an unattested intermediary denominal verb (HEG P:524f., HED PA:192f., Rieken & Yakubovich 2020a:217). It seems to have been built on the model of CLuw. baštaima/i-.
