1.1.4Meaning

The following contextual analysis is partly dependent on the direct join suggested by D. Sasseville between KUB 48.69 and KBo 60.236: The verb tešta refers to an action performed by the bull in the sky in the Spring(?), whereas in the Fall(?) the bull is said to make an appearance (see zakkuwalliye/a-). The use of the pronoun ašiwa to refer to the bull would indicate that the referee cannot be seen by the speaker. If there is a contrast expressed between the Spring and the Fall, it could be one of visibility, i.e. tešta ‘is absent/missing (?)’. An etymological connection would be necessary to support the semantic claim.

After an autopsy in the museum in May 2023, it became clear that KUB 48.69 and KBo 60.236 do not join directly, which diminishes, though not exclude, the possible restoration of the word for ´fall´.
