Checked against the photographs in the Mainzer Fotoarchiv. – The derivative doppelter Glossenkeilipattarmayan attests to the expected spelling with geminate -tt-.

1.1.4Meaning

Besides the fact that the lexeme occurs in bird oracle reports, it is only the relation with its derivative doppelter Glossenkeilipattarmayan ‘west’ that leads to the semantic interpretation as ‘west(ward)’ now widely accepted (for references, see doppelter Glossenkeilipattarmayan under Derivatives).

The adverb doppelter Glossenkeilipatarma is based on an unattested *ip(a)- and contains as its primary suffix polarizing -ttar- (< *-tro-). Regarding the final formant, case forms built on -m(ma)n-, -ma/i-, and non-mutating -ma- are possible, the last being the most plausible since stem final -ai(ya)- (as seen in doppelter Glossenkeilipattarmayan) normally arises by suffixation of -i(ya)- to non-mutating a-stemsMelchert 2014d:209 compares pašattarma- ‘swallowing’ (cf. under lemma)..
