de Roos 2007a:189 with n. 442 restores dù-mi after the break at KUB 15.26, 10’, and accordingly interprets [
?]˹i˺-pár-wa-aš-ḫa-aš as an acc. pl., but this is contradicted by the morphological form in -aš (see also DCL:s.v.).

1.1.4Meaning
Most scholars used to identify
iparwašḫa- with iparwašša/i-, the name of an oracle bird (HW:354, Güterbock 1956a:132, Ertem 1965a:215f., HED A, E, I:374f., HHw:62, Ünal 2007a:261, Melchert 2014d:205), or regard it as a cognate thereof (see under Stem). The context of the lexeme runs as follows (de Roos 2007a:188f.):
(7’)[m]a-a-an-na-mu Dištar URUla-⸢wa⸣-[za-an-ti-ia
(8’)⸢ú⸣-wa-ši ku-u-un
i-pár-wa-aš-[ḫa-an ar-ḫa ú-ul
(9’)[pé]-eš-ši-ia-ši nu a-na dingir-lim [
(10’)[2?
?]⸢i⸣-pár-wa-aš-ḫa-aš 1 kù.babbar 1 kù.[si22
de Roos 2007a seems to assume that the text is almost complete. Even if this were not the case, it seems clear that the
iparwašḫa- is an object made of precious metal. However, there is no indication for it being a bird-shaped figure and, therefore, the skepticism of de Roos 2007a:189 n. 440 (followed in CLL:91, HW 2nd ed. I:68) is well-founded.

1.1.5Stem
Already Güterbock 1956a:132 (followed by Kronasser 1966a:167, Archi 1975a:164, HEG A-K:364, CLL:91) recognized the -(a)šḫa- suffix and drew a connection to iparwašša/i- (thought to be an oracle bird). More specifically, Puhvel (HED A, E, I:374f.) derived their common base *iparwa- from *ipar- and further from *ipa-, which he identified with the same *ipa- seen in
ipatarma ‘west(ward)’ and
ipattarmayan ‘west(ward)’; cf. also Melchert 2014d:205. A more cautious stance regarding the last equation is taken by de Roos 2007a:189 n. 440, HW 2nd ed. I:68 and DCL:s.v., but the meaning of Luw. iparwašša/i- ‘western’, which also derives from the stem *iparwa-, was elucidated independently (see under Lemma) and supports the connection.

1.1.6Origin
The use of the gloss wedges together with the secondary suffix -(a)šḫa- productive in Luwian leave no doubt about the Luwian origin of the lexeme (as assumed in DLL:52, CLL:91, van den Hout 2006a:246, HHw:62, Melchert 2014d:205, HW 2nd ed. I:68; implicit HEG A-K:364 and HED A, E, I:374f.).
