‘of the place, local’1.1.1Transmission
This lexeme was restored in the inscription of the inscribed pillar of Xanthos, dated contextually to shortly after the ascension of Artaxerxes II in 405-404 BCE and stylistically to around 400 BCE (Borchhardt & Eichner 1997-1999a:19f.). Melchert (DLL:48) suggests tentatively the restoration of an abl./instr. pd[dãtij]edi (TL 44b.31-32), a derivative in -i(je)- from pddãt(i)-, which was highly tempting at the time (thus also Hajnal 1994a:145, see already Gusmani 1961b:43 n. 3 “pd[dãt]edi”). Later, Schürr & Dönmez 2015a:138f. published a new piece of the inscribed pillar that could be directly joined to the pillar restoring parts of the passage in question. Although the first four letters of line 32 are partly broken on the new piece, it is clear that the old restoration is incorrect. Schürr & Dönmez suggests instead pdṛịṭẹ[h]edi thinking of the divine name Padrita ‘Aphrodite’, which would better fit the traces. However, this is not the only possible restoration for some of the letters, and since it does not shed any light to the context, their restoration should be considered doubtful and is thus left as pd.ị..[.]edi.
