1.1.4Meaning
The fragmentary context does not offer enough information for a semantic analysis. However, the word must constitute the missing link between tappaš- ‘sky’ and tapašallat(i)- ‘sky dweller (?)’ (HEG T:124), provided the morphological analysis of the latter is correct in spite of the spelling with singleton -p- (for a phonological explanation, see Reconstruction under tapašallat(i)-); hence the tentative translation as ‘related to the sky (?)’.
[E.R.]
1.1.5Stem
For the putative base tappaš- ‘sky’, see under Meaning. The lexeme itself represents a formation with the relational -alla/i- suffix.
[E.R.]
1.1.6Origin
The classification as a Luwian borrowing depends on the analysis as a derivative of CLuw. tappaš- ‘sky’ plus the Luwian -alla/i- suffix.
[E.R.]
For the lemma head see CLuw. tappaš-.
