1.1.3Graphic Features
Checked against the photographs in the Mainzer Fotoarchiv. – The restoration of word-initial [am]-⸢ma⸣- does not find support in the fragmentary context, but is very likely in view of the available space.

1.1.4Meaning
Due to the fragmentary state of the tablet, a contextual interpretation is impossible. The only clue consists in the morphological analysis, i.e. ammašš- plus stem suffix -i- plus ending, which connects the verb with the root stem
/
āmmašš- ‘to wipe’. The 3rd. pl. in -iyanti points to a verb in -i(ya)-(di) or -i(ya)-(i). Sasseville 2021a:320f. opts for the former, but his argument that the verb features a lenited ending is obsolete after the rejection of the reading am-ma-aš-ši-ti at KBo 4.6 rev. 2’. Therefore, even if the restoration of [am]-⸢ma⸣-aš-ši-⸢ia-an⸣-ti is correct and the verbal stem exists, both stem classes remain possible.

1.2 Luwian in Hittite transmission
†ammaššiti
‘wipes’1.2.1Transmission
The verbal form ammaššiti is allegedly found in a prayer (CTH 380, NS). The 3sg. pres. act. am-ma-aš-ši-ti at KBo 4.6 rev. 2’ in Hittite context (as cited in CLL:11 and Sasseville 2021a:320) is probably a misreading and should be read am-ba-aš-ši-ti ‘in a burnt sacrifice’ instead (see ambaššit-). Other occurrences of MA signs in the text show a very different shape with the three horizontals much closer to each other than in the alleged MA sign in †am-ma-aš-ši-ti (Checked against the photographs in the Mainzer Fotoarchiv).
[E.R.]
For a discussion on the reconstruction of the root, see under Pal. āmša-(i).
