1.1.1Transmission

This lexeme is attested in the inscription of the inscribed pillar of Xanthos, dated contextually to shortly after the ascension of Artaxerxes II in 405-404 BCE and stylistically to around 400 BCE (Borchhardt & Eichner 1997-1999a:19f.).

1.1.2Forms

abl./instr. ukehezi[j]edi TL 44b.32-33 (Xanthos)

1.1.3Graphic Features

A join suggested by Schürr & Dönmez 2015a:138f. allowed for the ending of the word at the beginning of line 33 to be restored, although an abl./instr. had already been suspected on contextual grounds (see e.g. Gusmani 1961b:43 n. 3, DLL:76, Neumann 2007a:402 and Gehrisch 2018a:68).

1.1.4Meaning

Various analyses have been proposed, e.g. an ethnicon from a place name (Schürr apud DLL:76) even though ethnicons usually end in -ze/i- not -zi(je)-, and an adjective deriving from a professional title in -aza- c., i.e. -az-i(je)- with vowel harmony (Schürr apud DLL:76). Pending further evidence, no meaning is assigned here to the Lycian lexeme.
