nom./acc. sg. n. (?) ar-ma-an-na-i-m[a-an? ] KUB 42.67, 8’ (CTH 250, NS)

Thus Košak 1982a:187 (followed by CLL:29), although the number is not assured, a nom./acc. pl. n. form is also possible (as in Siegelová 1986a:514f.). Against HW 2nd ed. A:324 and HED A:152, who analyze the string as ar-ma-an-na-i=ma. The graphic reduction of the geminate -mm- in such Luwian formations is frequent especially in Hittite texts.

1.1.4Meaning

The word armannaima/i- is understood as a derivative of armann(i)- ‘lunula, crescent moon’ with possessive semantics, i.e. ‘decorated with lunula, crescent-shaped (objects)’ (Košak 1982a:187, Siegelová 1986a:514f., CLL:29, Sasseville 2021a:68).

The word armannaima/i- could represent the Luwian participle of a denominative in -(a)i-(di) or -a(i)-(di) or, if the process exists, a Luwian denominal possessive adjective in -aimma/i-.
