1.1.3Meaning
The word iškupto- designates someone who inherits the stele alongside the son. Thus, Meriggi 1935a:98 suggests on contextual grounds the meaning ‘descendants’, which is convincing (followed by Gusmani 1964a:135). This meaning is tentatively accepted here, though it cannot be considered absolutely proven, since it could refer instead to his beloved wife or any other beloved person, which would be equally adequate for the context. The root kup- can be etymologically compared to the one of Lyc. B kupri-(ti) ‘to love (?)’, which would be appropriate for the derived semantics of descendants or, if it refers to a single person, of a beloved one (e.g. beloved wife (?), concubine (?)).

1.1.4Stem
Gusmani 1964a:135 analyzes iškupto- convincingly as an original verbal formation because of the preverb iš-. Thus, there was probably a verb *iškup-, whereas -to- is an agent noun formation derived from the verb. On the suffix -to-, see lately Sasseville 2021a:182.
