perepñ

‘further’

1.1.1Transmission

This lexeme is found in a sepulchral inscription. Furthermore, it is probably extant in a personal name perepñne/i- (N 335) (see Christiansen 2019b:96 and Schürr 2018b:75 for a matching personal name in Greek transmission).

1.1.3Meaning ‘furthermore, besides’

The word perepñ ‘further’, introducing a second penalty, was elucidated on contextual grounds by Bugge 1901a:64 (followed by Laroche 1958b:184, Melchert (DLL:49), Neumann 2012a:395, Christiansen 2020a:255). For a summary of outdated literature, see Neumann 2007a:265.

1.1.4Stem

Most scholars see a univerbation between two originally independent adverbs, i.e. per(V) and epñ ‘after’. Laroche 1958b:184 compares the first member with Hitt. parā. Melchert 1994a:30 (and DLL:49) objects to this comparison, because Hitt. parā is phonologically interpreted as /pra/. The presence of the vowel in Lycian would speak for a different adverb and Melchert compares Hitt. pariya(n) ‘beyond’ and parranda ‘cross’.
